Barbara Joy Reedy
September 8, 1928 – August 26, 2020
Barbara Joy Reedy, age 91, passed away on August 26, 2020, at
Boscobel Care and Rehab. Barbara was born in Marietta Township, Crawford
County, Wisconsin, on September 8, 1928, to Earl and Beatrice (Ward) Fillbach.
After graduating from Boscobel High School in 1947, she moved to
Beloit where she worked in a shoe factory and lived with her uncle and aunt,
John & Ruth Fillbach. On December 31, 1948, she married Don Reedy in
Dubuque, Iowa. They had two sons and continued to live in Beloit. She was
able to travel frequently with Don throughout the East coast during the time he
worked on the natural gas line while her parents cared for the boys.
Later Barbara and Don moved to Missouri where they purchased a
small farm and had their daughter, Donna. After Don passed away in 1980,
Barbara sold the farm and moved to Verona, Missouri, where she worked at a
chicken factory for a few years. She then cared for her son, Philip, who had
been exposed to Agent Orange during the Vietman War, until he passed away,
as well as helping care for her daughter’s children.
After retiring, Barbara worked as a foster grandparent at a school for
the handicapped in Monet, Missouri. She rode their bus, supervising and
assisting with the transport of the children, as well as reading stories to them
Barbara had an infectious smile, loved to play cards, bingo and put
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Don, and her two boys,
Philip and Glenn. She is survived by her daughter, Donna, grandchildren, two
brothers, Earl (Virginia) Fillbach of Oviedo, Florida, and Jerry (Jean) Fillbach of
Steuben, Wisconsin, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services to be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11,
2020, at the Bob and Nancy (Fillbach) Dowling farm in rural Bell Center,
Wisconsin, with Elder Barbara Duke officiating. Graveside services will be held
at a later date in Missouri where she will be interred next to her husband and
sons. The Kendall Funeral Home of Boscobel is assisting the family.
