Bruce Puckett Obituary

Bruce D. Puckett, 73, Soldiers Grove, died peacefully in his sleep at home on Dec. 24, 2022.

Bruce was born on April 1, 1949, in Boscobel, the son of Harold and Elenora (Young) Puckett.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marines where he earned his GED.

After his return home, he had taken a job in Green Bay where he met Evelyn Philippi. Bruce and Evelyn married on Dec. 27, 1974, in Galena, Illinois.

Bruce spent most of his life over-the-road truck driving for various employers in Muscoda, Suring, West Bend, and Soldiers Grove, which caused many moves throughout Wisconsin for the family.

In 1987, Bruce and Evelyn bought a house in Soldiers Grove and settled there with their two children, Barb and Brett.

As Bruce continued to drive truck locally, they also owned and operated Eve’s Home Cooking in Soldiers Grove in 1989.

He was a great mentor who had taught some area youths how to drive those big rigs.

Bruce was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family when he could.

He later retired and stayed in Soldiers Grove. He spent his retirement fishing or tinkering with mechanics and who could forget his rituals of the morning and afternoon visits to the Wonder Bar.

He enjoyed watching westerns and listening to old classic country music.

He was a great spirit to be reckoned with. He could always come up with a great joke or a smart comment to get you to laugh or smile, whether you wanted to or not.

He will be missed by many who knew him or loved him.

He is survived by his two children, Barb Puckett, Boscobel and Brett (Heather) Puckett, Boscobel; two grandchildren, Braxton and Hudson Puckett, both of Boscobel; two sisters, Donna (Mohamed) El Asawi, Rockford, Ill. and Louanne (Robert) Atkinson, Steuben; his awesome angelic neighbor, Monica Alexander and her family, Soldiers Grove; his nieces and nephews; many Puckett, Young and Mezera cousins; and other family and friends.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Harold, October 18, 1981, and Elenora, August 21, 2021; his wife, Evelyn, May 10, 1999; his brother, Harold “Butch” Puckett; grandparents, William and Grace (Schoville) Young; a nephew; his friend and neighbor, Ronald Alexander.
