Christoph “Chris” Gebhard, age 95 of Woodman, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. He was born
on March 19, 1928 in Grant County, the son of Heinrich “Henry” and Bertha (Freymiller) Gebhard. He
married LaVonne Rider on December 19, 1953 in Boscobel.
Chris was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, and was seen for many years on the Steuben
American Legion Post #446 Iwo Jima float. He farmed for his entire life. Chris and LaVonne enjoyed
trips to Branson, MO, and shared a love of dancing.
Chris is survived by two sons, Greg Gebhard (Kathy Leffler) and Gary Gebhard (Cathy Stimpson), both
of Woodman; a daughter, Reta Gebhard and her husband, Fred Mayne, Woodman. Grandchildren
Jeremiah Gottschall, Micah (Krisa) Gottschall, Juli Gottschall, Jeni (Vijay) Shinde, Ashlea Gebhard (Sam
Post) and Alex Gebhard. Great-grandchildren Jordan, Jeremiah Jr. and Sierra Gottschall; Voneta
Gottschall; Aryana and Sophia Shinde. His Sister Naomi Nockerts-Maly, Brother Duane Gebhard (Pam
Kuntz). Sisters-in-law Donna Gebhard, Helen Schmelz and Maxine Wall, Brother-in-law Wayne Rider
(Maggie Peterson); numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife LaVonne on October 20, 2011; his parents, Henry and Bertha
Gebhard; brothers Gerald Gebhard and Ernest “Armine” Gebhard; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law
SuZanne Gebhard, Leo Nockerts, Charles “Chub” Maly, Darlene Gebhard, Lawrence (Ellen) Rider, Melvin
Schmelz, Jerome (Marion) Rider, Leona (Herald) Stagman, Loretta (John) Waltz , Bernard Wall, Minnie
Rider, Rick Rider (Nancy McCullick).
Military Honors accorded by the Daugherty-Larson American Legion Post #446 of Steuben.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kendall Funeral Home,
in Boscobel. Pastor Mark Peters officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call on Friday
June 30, 2023 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel. Military
Honors will be accorded by the Daugherty-Larson American Legion Post #446 of Steuben. Online condolences
