Colin Masica Obituary

Masica, Colin Paul (Nick) Passed away peacefully on February 23rd, 2022 at Divine Rehabilitation Center in Fennimore, WI where he had been for 8 years. Survived by sister Joan Prairie (Robert) and brother Richard Masica. He had five nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father Peter and mother Evelyn Masica. Colin owned a farm in Boscobel, WI where he retired and learned about farming and became involved in the community and made many loyal friends who referred to him as Nick. Colin was born June 13, 1931 in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Earned a BA degree from the U of MN, Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude honors. Enlisted and served 2 years in the US Army Field Artillery, Korea and Japan. Enrolled in graduate work at U of Pennsylvania, MA degree in South Asian Regional Studies. Lived four years in Hyderabad, India sponsored by the Ford Foundation. Employed as Director of Linguistic Research at the University of Chicago for many years. Earned a Ph D degree in 1971 and was Assistant Professor of Hindi. Languages studied: German, Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam, Persian, and Sanskrit. Wrote and published a book on linguistics of South Asia. Visitation from 9-10:30 am at Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel, WI. Funeral service will be at St. Isaac Monastery in rural Boscobel, WI at 11:00 a.m on Monday, February 28th Burial at Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis.
