Dennis Harwood Obituary

Dennis Harwood, age 71, of Woodman, Wisconsin found his final peace while surrounded by his family on July 26, 2020 after a courageous year long fight with cancer.  Third of six children born to Theron Clyde & Lillian Agnes (Ward) Harwood. Class President and letterman at Boscobel High School 1967 and was a decorated Vietnam Navy Veteran. He married Betty Zinck in the winter of 1968. They had four children: Jason Harwood (Madison), Rebecca Harwood (Oshkosh), Susan Maki (Ripon), and Elizabeth Harwood (Brandon). Dennis was an extraordinary uncle. A deep thinker, philosopher, an animal lover. An excellent hunter and fisherman, all around outdoorsman. A Jack-of-all-trades, Mr. Fix-It, tinkerer and tech guru. He was quick-witted, a teller of tall tales and a spinner of yarns. Generous of mind, body and spirit; he would give you the shirt off of his back. Dennis was preceded  by his parents Theron Clyde & Lillian Agnes (Ward) Harwood, a nephew, James (Jim) Harwood Jr., a great-nephew, Alexavier Cochran, Sister & Brother-In-Law, Nancy & Herb Larson, Brother-In-Law Steve Zinck and family friend Charlie Loomis. He is survived  by his former wife, his children Jason Harwood (Madison), Rebecca Harwood (Oshkosh), Susan Maki (Ripon), Elizabeth Harwood (Brandon). Grandchildren, Jeran Baetz, Braxton Maki and  pack of grand-puppies. His siblings Jim (Judy) Harwood  Tennessee,  Larry(Carolyn) Harwood, La Porte Ia., John (Vicky) Harwood,of Arbor Vitae Wi.,  Kenny (Marsha) Harwood, of Boscobel Mary (Keith) Trumm of Boscobel. Extended Family: Larry (Sherrie) Zinck, Gary Zinck, Lori Zinck, H. James Zinck, Norm & Donna Ashmore. Three hooligans, Mark and Joe Harwood and Cody Trumm, who could be found participating in mischievious "don't let your mother know" antics. Three generations of beloved nieces and nephews coming out of his ears ; ears which were generously stretched by his mother as a youth, making them his trademark forevermore.  Countless friends and neighbors from all chapters of his life; Boscobel High School, U.S. Navy, Madison Newspaper, Wang Inc., Wisconsin Educational Communications Board and retirement. Many heartfelt thanks to the Grant County Hospice team for their boundless compassion and endless support to allow Dad to complete his life's journey with dignity.
