Donald "Don" Stovey Obituary

 

Donald E. ":Don" Stovey, age 74 of Bell Center, passed away on Wednesday March 29, 2023 at his home .  He was born April 27, 1948, at home in Copper Creek rural Ferryville.  The son of Alfred and Jean (Grim) Stovey. He married Marilyn Mikkleson, they later divorced. He married Judy Christopherson on September 14, 1985 at the Latter Day Saints Church at Montgomeryville . She preceded him in death on June 7, 2020. He then married  Irene Klatt on November 14, 2020 at the Maple Ridge Bible Church rural Boscobel.

 

Don served in the US Navy during the Vietnam war 1968-1970.  He worked as a carpenter for many years, and during his free time he enjoyed playing horseshoes and was known as "Double D = Dinger Don."  He was known for his famous grilled chicken, and for many years served over 400 chicken meals annually in the little town of Retreat.  He loved camping and being with his family.  Don was a member of the Maple Ridge Bible Church and was very proud to profess his faith in Jesus Christ.  He was a member of the McCormick-Rose American  Legion Post #308 of Gays Mills.  He was proud to be a veteran of the US Navy serving his country.

 

He is survived by his wife Irene Stovey of Bell Center. His children, Craig (Heidi) Stovey of Reedsburg, Chad (Heidi) Stovey of Soldiers Grove, Cory (Jen) Stovey of Blue River, Shawna (Nick) Koch of Reedstown, Lori (Don) Brown of Gays Mills, Sara Christopherson of Bagley, Teri Christopherson of Muscoda, Lisa (Jody) Anderson of Viola, Burnie (Andrea) Christopherson of Gays Mills, Cyndy (Gerald) Klatt of Richland Center, Sherry (Chad) Mueller of Richland Center, numerous Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.  His siblings, David (Nancy) Stovey of Prairie du Chien, Irene Winterhack of LaCrosse, Shirley Stovey of Prairie du Chien, Arvid (Julie) Stovey of Richland Center, Artel (Lisa) Stovey of Stoddard, Richard (Tammy) Stovey of Prairie du Chien, Donna (Tom) Treptow of Billings Mont., Alice (Jeff)Gilbertson of Prairie du Chien, Roger (Marie) Stovey of Prairie du Chien, Rachel (Jeff) Baneck of Watertown, along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, a Grandson Carter Stovey, and his wife Judy Stovey.

 

Funeral Services will be held on Monday April 3, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. at the Maple Ridge Bible Church rural Boscobel. Pastors Noel Mayes and David Smith officiating. Burial in the Haney Ridge Cemetery, rural Gays Mills. Friends may call on Monday April 3, 2023 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the Maple Ridge Bible Church rural Boscobel. Military honors will be accorded by the McCormick-Rose American  Legion Post #308 of Gays Mills.
