Doris Miller Obituary

Doris Lorraine Miller, of Boscobel, Wisconsin, died on May 14, 2021, at Care and Rehab. She was
born on September 17, 1927, in Buena Vista Township, rural Richland County, Wisconsin, to the late
Esther Marie (Tyler) Lindley and Ernest E. Lindley. Doris married Byron Miller on February 12, 1946.
Doris’s life was defined by the care and unconditional love she gave to her family. She loved birds,
horses, flowers, country music, reading, and car rides in through the countryside. She hated thunder
storms and having her picture taken. By necessity, she could stretch a dollar to seemingly impossible
lengths, yet she always had enough food on hand that the entire extended family could enjoy a nice
dinner at any time. Doris worked very hard for most of her life, but in her later years was able to travel
with her family across the country and in Canada and England. She lived through some very hard
times and as a result learned to find pleasure and beauty in simple things. She passed on that ability
to her family. In recent years dementia dimmed her memory, but her family will forever remember
and be grateful for her devotion and the sacrifices she made for them.
Byron died in 1966. Doris was also preceded in death by their infant son, Ernest, daughter, Sharon
Calhoun, grandsons, Lawrence Riechers and Casey Rotramel, and son-in-law, Larry Riechers.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, her brothers, James Lindley, Jesse Lindley and Allen
Gene Lindley, her sisters, Lillie (Harold) Lewis and Ardith (Lloyd) Lindelien, and Byron’s brothers,
sisters and in-laws, Verlin Miller, Bernard Miller, Genevieve (Kenneth) Zintz and Audrey (Ray) Little.
Doris lives on through her surviving children: Carolyn Miller, Barbara (J.D.) Lasar, Jeanette Riechers,
Ruth (Bill) Rotramel, Chuck (Cindy) Miller, Marla (Harry) Heisz, Yvonne Miller, Christine Miller, and
son-in-law Lon Calhoun. Her grandchildren are Aimee Lasar, David (Caitlin) Riechers, Michael
Riechers, Allison (Kurt) Meyer, Shayna (Rhandi) Rios, Evan Miller, Heather Jensen, Sara Beth
(James) Davis, Courtney Heisz, Kylie Heisz, Tony Calhoun, Jenny (Sky) Gamble, and Mitchell
Calhoun. Her great-grandchildren are Ellen and Sydney Meyer, Quinn Rios, and Roman, Thomas
and Brigham Gamble. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Alice Miller, her nieces and nephews,
and by Marla and Harry’s exchange students from around the world, who became members of the
family.
In the last few years of her life, Doris lived at Boscobel Care and Rehab; the family thanks the
dedicated staff who cared for her. Thanks also to the Gunderson Boscobel Area Hospital staff, who
cared for Doris over the years, and to the staff at St. Croix Hospice, who gave comfort to Doris and
the family during her final illness.
