Elizabeth “Betty” Tanner, age 88, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on October 17, 2022. She was born on June 19, 1934, the daughter of Herbert and Geraldine (Bourrette) Degenhardt. Betty was united in marriage with Theodore “Ted” Tanner on January 15, 1955 and spent many wonderful years together before his passing in 2002.
She is survived by her daughters, Gail (David) Wetter of Boscobel and Toni (Gene Tyler) Tanner of Soldiers Grove; four brothers, Tom (Francine) Degenhardt of Madison, Bill Degenhardt of Hillsboro, John (Linda) Degenhardt of Viola, Jerry (Laura) Degenhardt of Blue River; five sisters, Patricia Stuber of Flagstaff, AZ, Nancy Holt of Superior, Sally (Chuck) Allee of Paris, TX, Kathy Smith of Boscobel, Julie (Jim) Miess, of Muscoda, 22 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Geraldine Degenhardt; husband, Ted Tanner; son, Shawn Tanner; infant daughter, Holly Tanner; granddaughter, Jamie Wetter; brothers, Timothy Degenhardt and Kenneth Degenhardt; sisters, Dorothy Knutson and Margie Salis; brother-in-law Lavon Smith; and sister-in-law Juanita Degenhardt.
Sharing a love for horses, Ted and Betty built their homestead outside of Boscobel and managed a horse breeding business for many years.
Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was especially devoted to her grandchildren. A lover of animals, Betty enjoyed the companionship of her many pets over the years, particularly her beagle, Cuddles.
Her lifetime of public service includes her work at the Community Action Program office in Boscobel and home healthcare with Homeward Bound. In her later years, she volunteered with the Gundersen Partners at the Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital Gift Shop, serving as the President.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Corpus Christi Parish - Immaculate Conception Church in Boscobel with Father Cristian Valenzuela as celebrant. Burial will be held in Boscobel Cemetery in Boscobel. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel. Friends may also call on Saturday October 22, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of departure to the church .Memorials will be donated to various local charities. Betty’s family would like to thank all of the family and friends who offered their love and support over the last few years.
