Gene Ward, 67, of Wauzeka, WI, passed away at his home on October 28, 2023, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Gene was Born to Vincent and Violet (Kuck) Ward on August 31, 1956. He grew up on the family farm in Steuben, WI and together with his parents and brother, raised brown swiss cattle.
On October 16, 1976, Gene married the love of his life, Jannette (Groom). Together, Gene and Jannette raised their three children Jackie, Dana, and Ryan in Wauzeka.
As a young man, Gene started out in the workforce setting homes for Design Homes in Prairie Du Chein. He has proudly driven truck and hauled logs for Nelson's for the last 43 years and was known as the "Log Buzzard."
Gene was a family man. He enjoyed spending time at the farm on Plum Creek, sitting on the front porch with family and friends, shopping with his girls, hunting with his son, and making memories with his grandchildren. His grandchildren meant the world to him and he was always the first one to hold a new baby in the family. Gene loved shopping on Black Friday and finding the good garage sales. He knew how to find a good deal and he was always buying things for anyone but himself. He was a master of many trades and if something needed to be fixed, built, or updated, Gene was the man to call. Of all the skills that gene mastered, he will always be remembered as the best husband, father, and grandfather. To know him was to love him and his big heart, generosity, knowledge, and selflessness will forever be cherished and missed.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jannette; his children Jackie (Kevin), Dana (Mike), and Ryan (Tricia); his grandchildren Phoenix, Logan, Noah, Danyel, Dakota, Kyle, Liam, Everly, Esme, Veda, and Owen; his brother Gerald (Jan) Ward; special brother and sister-in-law Brad and Phyllis Groom; special lifelong friends Steve Schreck, Doug Sanders, and Stewart Williams; his special pups Deisel and Dozer, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and brother and sister-in-laws.
He was proceded in death by his parents Vincent and Violet; mother and father in law Toby and Thelma Sittig; his nephew and godson Curtis Groom; his paternal grandparents Ernest and Dora Ward, maternal grandparents Edward and Marie Kuck, and special pups Mack and Chevy.
Blessed be Gene's memory and the legacy he has built.
