Helen L. Groom

Helen Lorraine Groom, age 93 of Boscobel, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. She was born on February 25, 1931, daughter of the late Howard and Mercy (Payne) Kinder. Helen married Fritz Groom on May 2, 1947 in Eklador, IA, and their marriage was blessed with nine children.

Helen felt most at home when she was working on her family’s farm, and she particularly enjoyed taking care of her cows. Helen had a passion for cooking and baking, and took great pride in making delicious meals for her family. She was also a talented seamstress who loved to sew. Helen appreciated a good cup of coffee in the morning and spending time with her family. She was a strong-willed person who was a tremendously hard-working. Helen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her children Michael Groom of Wauzeka, Alan Groom of Prairie du Chein, Todd Groom of Boscobel, Linda Groom of Steuben, Barbara Blanchard of Marshfield, Donna Hutchison of La Crosse, and Kay Burns of Boscobel; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Fritz Groom, son Hollis Groom, infant son Tommy Groom, sons-in-law Thomas Hutchison and Michael Burns, along with her parents.

A private family graveside service will be held. Helen will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Boscobel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established. Online condolences can be offered at www.kendallfuneralservice.com.
