Jeffrey A. "Jeff" Roling

Jeffrey A. "Jeff " Roling, age 62 of Boscobel, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Gundersen Health System in Boscobel. He was born on August 25, 1962, in Dubuque, Iowa. The son of Tony and Therese (Burds) Roling. He married his childhood sweetheart Lora Simon on September 15, 1989, in Dubuque Iowa. Jeff was marked by his hard work, humor, and loyalty. A painter by trade, his loved ones knew him as a storyteller. Around the table he’d recall memories that others could only imagine reading about, such as riding a raft while inside a water tower, tying himself off several stories high to take a nap, and surviving being hit by a train, to name a few. He had a catalog mind for classic cars and a perfect recall for songs. He could easily recite an eclectic range of music from John Denver to Jon Bon Jovi. A motorhead at heart, he collected a range of cars and motorcycles throughout his life and loved driving on the backroads. He enjoyed fishing, sitting around the campfire, talking film and TV, cuddling his dogs, and having a good meal with family and friends. He was a beloved husband, father, “Papa,” brother, and friend. His professional touch is left behind throughout Dubuque, Madison, and the tri-state area, including The American Family Children’s Hospital, The Memorial Terrace, Epic, the Dubuque bridges, and the Cathedral of St. Raphael. In his retirement, he devoted his time to his family, church, and community. On Saturdays, you could find him making waffles for Feed My Starving Children at the Boscobel Farmers Market. He was also a survivor in more ways than one, having battled a rare autoimmune disease since 2009. His loved ones are grateful for the years he fought to spend with them. His easy laugh, clever smile, and warm embrace will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lora Roling of Boscobel. His Children; Tabitha (Shaun) Weier of Jacksonville, N.C., Steven Roling of Westby, Tessa (Jared) Yanna of Belleville, and 5 grandchildren. His siblings, Julie Roling of Dubuque, Kathy (Dave) Selle of Dubuque, Barb Roling (Mike Arnold) LeClaire Iowa, Donna (Chris) Manternach of Dubuque, Tim (Tobey) Roling of East Dubuque, Brian Roling (Zeborah Allison) of Middleton, Todd (Patty) Kuhse of Independence Iowa, Ron (Deb) Kuhse of St. Olaf Iowa. He is further survived by close friends, Joe (Merri) Favazza of Boscobel, and Bruce (Kathryn) Pittsley of Gays Mills, and his chosen brothers, Dave Simon of Dubuque and Jimmy (Cathy) Burds of Erie, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 12:00 noon, at Back Roads Church in Boscobel. Pastor Lance Wetter is officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at Back Roads Church in Boscobel. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Feed My Starving Children or American Family Children’s Hospital. The Kendall Funeral Service in Boscobel is assisting the family.
