JoAnn DeKoning, a cherished soul whose creative spirit and loving nature touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2023, in Boscobel, Wisconsin. Born on August 9, 1934, in Milwaukee, JoAnn's journey through life was marked by joy, resilience, and a warm-hearted presence that drew people to her. Growing up in Milwaukee, JoAnn graduated from Pulaski High School, where she laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and dedication. She entered the workforce with a strong sense of purpose, leading to a successful career in retail. JoAnn's professional life included many years of service at Gimbel's, Semons, Speedway, Super America, and Pick 'N Save. She was known for her exceptional work ethic and her ability to connect with customers and colleagues alike, making her a well-respected and valued member of each team she joined. Beyond her professional endeavors, JoAnn was a woman of many interests. Her love for gardening allowed her to cultivate not just plants, but also beauty and tranquility in her surroundings. She had an exceptional talent for knitting and sewing, creating countless cherished items for her loved ones and friends. An avid bird watcher, JoAnn found joy in the simple pleasure of observing the wonders of nature. Additionally, her interest in meteorology was evident to all who knew her, as she could often be found watching the Weather Channel, staying informed on the latest forecasts and weather patterns. JoAnn was a member of the American Legion, the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the NIle, and International Order of Rainbow Girls. She spent many hours traveling and fundraising, and often showed her talents in crafting table decorations and cookie baking for the organizations. She met many people along the way and made lifelong friendships that she cherished. JoAnn's family was the cornerstone of her life. She was a loving mother to Lynda (Bob) Ferguson, Cheryl DeKoning, Robert DeKoning, and Mary (Chris) Graesing. As a grandmother of six and a great-grandmother of nine, JoAnn's legacy of love and laughter will live on through the stories and memories shared by her family. Her nurturing presence and the lessons she imparted will continue to guide them through the years. Throughout her life you could find her rocking a baby, whether it be her own, her grandkids, or great grandkids. Those who had the pleasure of knowing JoAnn would describe her as creative, spirited, and loving. Her creativity was not just a hobby but a way of life, infusing everything she did with originality and flair. Her spirited nature was evident in her zest for life and her ability to find happiness in everyday moments. Above all, JoAnn was loving—a beacon of warmth and affection for her family, friends, and all who crossed her path. JoAnn DeKoning's life was a tapestry of meaningful relationships, cherished moments, and a legacy of kindness that will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. As her family and friends bid her farewell, they take comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to inspire and guide them, just as it did throughout her remarkable life. She has been reunited with her husband "Duke" the love of her life. JoAnn's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those she leaves behind, yet they celebrate a life well-lived, full of passion, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved. Her memory will be held dear, a reminder of the beauty and love that one person can bring into the world. JoAnn DeKoning will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain a cherished presence in the lives of those she touched.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday December 29, 2023 at 11:0 A.M. at the Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel. Pastor Mary Ann Floreke officiating. Burial in the Sunny Side Cemetery in Lannon Wisconsin. Friends may call on Friday December 29, 2023 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel.
