John C. Durnen

John C. Durnen, age 84 of Boscobel, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024. He was born in Fennimore on August 25, 1939, son of the late Leo and Clarice Durnen. John married Carol Mosnicka on September 7, 1963 in Norwalk, WI, and their marriage was blessed with four sons. He loved hunting, fishing and telling a good joke. John had the unique ability to never know a stranger because he could make a friend anywhere. He enjoyed working on crafts, puzzles and watching westerns in his free time. However, what he loved the most was spending time with his family. He loved watching his family play sports. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

John is survived by his wife Carol Durnen of Boscobel, sons Ronald (Eve) Durnen of Greeley, CO, Richard “Rick” (Sarah) Durnen of Erie, CO, Randall “Randy” (Janet) Durnen of Chugwater, WY, and Rory (Keri) Durnen of Thorton, CO.  Grandchildren; Kirsten (Stuart), Jessica, Ashlyn and Kaden. Great-grandchildren; Dirk, Aiyana, Hunter and Kimber. Brothers David (Nancy) Durnen of Amboy, IL and Doug (Sandi) Durnen of Soldiers Grove; sisters Wanda (Clem) O’Brien of Mt. Hope and Phyllis (Ken) Lester of Boscobel; along with multiple nieces and nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Marion (Merle) Merkel, and brother-in-law Joe (Frances) Mosnicka.

The funeral service for John will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 208 Mary Street, Boscobel with Rev. Mark Peters officiating.
