June 25, 2023

Obituary

Joyce L. Weber, age 91, of Boscobel, WI, died peacefully Sunday, June 25, 2023, at her home
with family by her side.
She was born December 28, 1931, on a farm near Bradford, IL. The daughter of Otto Fred
Burwell and Jessie Boon (Wright) Burwell, Joyce graduated from Bradford High School in 1950.
After graduation, she worked at Bradford High School and Caterpillar Corporation in Peoria, IL.
Joyce married William D. Weber on March 14, 1952, in Jonesboro, AK. When their children
were born, Joyce became an amazing stay-at-home mother. In 1976 she began working at
Boscobel Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home. She earned a Certified Nursing Assistant
degree and retired after 34 years. She was also a dedicated partner with her husband’s small
business, Lap Desk Manufacturing Company.
She is survived by her five children, Clayton P. Weber of Hobart, WI; William V. (Sarah) Weber of
Madison, WI; Daniel K. (Lynn Brown) Weber of Houston, TX; Steven L. (Julie) Weber of Green
Bay, WI: and Nancy L. (Jerry Anderson) Weber of Madison, WI; as well as eight grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her
older brother and sister-in-law Otto Dean Burwell and Phyllis (Wirth) Burwell.
Joyce was devoted to her family, especially to her children’s education, athletics, music, and
social activities. She was a Cub Scout den mother, chaperone for class trips, host for foreign
exchange students, and often made treats for school classes. She loved being close to her
grandchildren and their summer visits when they were young. She looked forward to hosting
the deer hunting crew each fall for the last 40 years. She enjoyed sending birthday and
anniversary greetings to all family members and actively helped record family history. Joyce
began work at the nursing home Recreational Therapy Department in “the activity room”. She
loved her job, her coworkers, and the residents. At work and around Boscobel she touched
many people’s lives with her loving kindness.
Per her wishes, no services are planned. Joyce’s ashes will be buried, along with her husband’s,
at Smith Cemetery, in Osceola Township, Stark County, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family
encourages donations to Boscobel Rescue Squad, c/o Joyce Weber Memorial, 13 Flagstaff Court,
