Judith A. Schell, aged 84 of Richland Center, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Richland Hospital in Richland Center, surrounded by her family. Judy was born on April 19, 1940, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lyle and Jessie (DeVries) Yanke. She married Leonard Schell on October 11, 1975, in Newton, Kansas.
Judy grew up in Lake Geneva, WI, attending school in Walworth. She spent time traveling as a military wife domestically and abroad. She worked diligently in various places such as a chicken factory as a teenager, Tony’s Pizza, Wards, 1-hour photo, Beryl D'Shannon Aircraft, Walmart, and many more. She formed lifelong friendships.
As an avid lover of both wild and domestic animals, her life always included dogs and horses. She also often had cats, and rescued pets. Judy and Len’s current dog Brandi will certainly feel a void in their home.
Judy enjoyed horseback riding with Len and on trail rides and in parades with others. Judy enjoyed traveling throughout the US on vacations, visiting family, and camping with Len and the kids. Among the travels was her lifelong dream of seeing the Grand Canyon. She was in awe of its beauty and would retell the story of that trip to anyone who would listen!
Not only was Judy one of the most caring wives, mothers, and grandmothers, but she also always had an open invitation for friends, family, and visitors, whether she knew them or not. She had a witty sense of humor—when teased, she would dish it right back! It made for light and enjoyable conversation with everyone.
Judy made a significant impact on the lives of many. She will truly be missed.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard Schell of Richland Center; her children, Vince (Susan) Muehe of Prior Lake, MN, Colleen (Timothy) Arndt of Blue River, Jolene (James) Archer of Nixon, MO, Gregg (Susan) Schell of Topeka, KS, Kathryn (Matthew) Hecker of Pratt, KS; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, along with her former spouse, James Muehe.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 479 S. Park Street, Richland Center, WI with Pastor Michelle Elfers officiating.
