Kathryn Steiner Obituary

Kathryn Alice Steiner, age 95 of rural Blue River, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024. She was born on November 10, 1928 to the late James Gobin and Agnes Willows. Kathryn married Frank Steiner on May 12, 1946, and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage before Frank’s passing in 2011. Together they raised tobacco and milked cows for many years. Kathryn also worked as a switchboard operator at the local telephone company, and in later years took a role at the Boscobel hospital, serving in housekeeping.

Kathryn was born with hands eager to create beauty in the world. Her hands were rarely still, rather always busy creating beauty for her home and for those she loved. She found much joy in the rhythm of her needles as together they transformed yarn into intricate patterns while doing crocheting and knitting. She did some of her best work while watching the Brewers, Packers or Badgers. She also enjoyed making ceramics, where she turned clay into stunning pieces that directly reflected her patience and keen eye for detail. She was meticulous in all things she did, and house work and yard work were no exceptions. Her yard was always pristine and blooming due to hours of labor. Neighbors thought nothing of it to drive by and see her digging out dandelions by hand with her bucket and shovel. She absolutely loved to mow her lawn. Her garden too was a source of pride and joy. Kathryn by definition was a home maker. She made a home that was warm and inviting with the aroma of home cooking and sounds of laughter filling the air. Kathryn's heart belonged to her family, and cherished time spent with them. To them she was a source of quiet wisdom, and the heart of family gatherings. She was a pillar of strength and love, always ready with open arms. Her legacy is one of gentle kindness as she was a woman of resilience and grace. Kathryn will be deeply missed, and the general joy she brought to this world will never be forgotten. Her spirit, like her beloved flowers, will remain a timeless and inspiring presence.

Kathryn is survived by her daughters Mary (Ron) Troxel of Beloit, Phyllis Reyzek of Boscobel, and Linda (Edward) Chitwood of Blue River; 8 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Janece Gobin of Platteville. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Steiner, great-granddaughter Hinsley Reyzek, sons-in-law David Reyzek and Terry Brown, along with her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Mt. Zion Backroads Church, 21588 Mt. Zion Road, Boscobel with Rev. Stan Pegram officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 am until the time of the service. Kathryn will be laid to rest next to her husband at the West Fork Cemetery.
