Larry Wayne Obituary

Larry E. Wayne Sr., age 82 of Woodman, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at home with his family by his side.  He was born on February 23, 1942, the youngest of 12 children, to the late Eldon and Nellie (Ward) Wayne.  Larry married Maxine Smith on June 11, 1960 in Boscobel.  They had two children, sons Butch and Doug.

Larry drove semi for over 50 years, and alongside Maxine, they farmed in Woodman Township until his passing, raising horses, cattle, and hogs. When the hay was made, and the chores were done, Larry and his family spent many weekends at horse pulls, rodeos, horse shows, and trail rides.  He was a talented horseman. He raised and broke numerous draft and quarter horses over the years, and his love for working with them carried through his entire life, using his draft horses for field work well into retirement.

His favorite hobby for over 40 years was traveling all over southwest Wisconsin listening to his wife and sons play in their band and enjoying the company of all the friends that would also come to listen.  In later years, Larry loved to watch his great-grandchildren play sports.  He and Maxine attended every game they were able, to cheer on every kid on the team.  He also loved visits from his grandkids, often saddling a horse for them to take turns riding around the yard.  He loved his family.  They were his true pride and joy.  One never had to wonder what he was thinking, and his stories, and sometimes colorful phrases, will always be remembered.

Larry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maxine Wayne of Woodman, son Doug (Fonetta) Wayne of Woodman; 5 grandchildren, Justin (Jodie) Wayne, Austen (Carrie) Wayne of Woodman, Cody (Erin) Wayne, Kyle (Leticia) Wayne of Boscobel, and Ashleigh Wayne of Conover, WI; mother-in-law Juanita Smith of Boscobel, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Walter Smith, son Butch Wayne, brothers Alfred, Earl, and Bernard Wayne; sisters Elizabeth Glassmaker, Esther Zimple, Margaret Seeley, Genevia Thingvold, Loretta Schulka, Elmyra Smith, Mable Dodge, and Marlene Wetter.
