Lawrence Earl “Larry” Zinck, age 78, of Boscobel, entered eternal life on Friday, December 27, 2024, while surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born April 27, 1946, in Boscobel to Herbert and Mary (Broadbent) Zinck. He graduated from Boscobel High School in 1964. While attending UW-Stevens Point, Larry answered the call of duty by serving his country in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, he enrolled at UW-Platteville, where this fisherman met the catch of his life, Sherrie Jeske. They were married months later, on June 7, 1969, in Dodgeville.
Larry was larger than life. His strong, gentle presence filled any room. LarBear could be heard singing while he worked on the family farm. He shared his love of music with Sherrie, as members of the Boscobel Irish Singers. Later in life, he enjoyed his career as a rural mail carrier with the Fennimore Post Office and looked forward to his annual fishing trips to Canada with Denny and the boys.
His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, sharing stories of their latest adventures in sports, activities, fishing, hunting, and farming. He was their biggest fan. He was also an unofficial ‘consultant’ for Wisconsin Sports teams.
He expressed his faith through actions and lived it out through hard work, a helping hand, and countless sacrifices made on behalf of his family. Larry exemplified John 15:13-“Greater love has no man than this, than to lay down his life for his friends.”
He is survived by his wife, Sherrie, of Boscobel, seven children; Christina (Chris) Stockton, Bloomington, MN; Eric Zinck, Onalaska; A.J. (Tara) Zinck, Deer Park, WI; Joanna (Lucas) Glasbrenner, Boscobel; Todd (Lan) Zinck, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Kimberly (Perry) LaBore, Destin, FL; Kevin Zinck, Boscobel; 14 grandchildren: Faith, Grace, Levi, Lilah, and Joe Glasbrenner; Addie, Aidan, and Ava Zinck; Gabrielle, Holleigh, and Noelle Stockton; Lucy and Leon LaBore; and Roi Zinck; a sister, Betty Harwood, of Ripon; brothers Gary Zinck of Middleton and Jim Zinck of Gleason, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Herb Larson, brother Steve Zinck, and brother-in-law Dennis Harwood.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon at Immaculate Conception Church 405 E. LeGrand Street, Boscobel. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Christopher Padilla officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Blake-Semrad American Legion Post #134 and the Gilbertson-Pitzer-Radley VFW Post #10393. Burial after the service at Homer Cemetery, rural Boscobel, with a luncheon to follow at Immaculate Conception Church.
