Mary L. Ostrander, age 72 of Boscobel, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. She was born on August 12, 1952 to the late Richard and Bessie (Hayes) Kidd and grew up in Boscobel. She married Tom “Burr” Ostrander on July 9, 1994 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Boscobel, and he preceded her in death in 2021. Mary’s career throughout most of her working days was in the grocery/retail business. Upon retirement, Mary volunteered on many occasions specifically at the Food Pantry and at the Tuffley Center in Boscobel. Mary enjoyed going through antique shops and craft stores, going to the Apple Orchards in Gays Mills each Fall with family, spending time with special friends made at the apartment complex she lived in, and spending time with her children/grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her children Angie (Gene) Gerndt of Marquette, IA; Greg (Gretchen) Johnson of Boscobel, Tim Johnson of Boscobel; 9 grandchildren; Taylor Miles, Ayla and Katelyn Gerndt, Dylan, Aubree and Kylee Johnson, Jacob Welsh, Anna Welsh, and Rebecca Collins. 6 great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law Elaine Kidd of Welton, IA and Bonita (Roscoe) Ray of Muscoda, brother-in-law John Ostrander of Muscoda; several nieces and nephews, a special aunt and uncle Connie (David) Hudson of Prairie du Chien, goddaughter Melanie Lund of Madison, WI, along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom ( Burr) Ostrander, siblings Duane Kidd, Wayne Kidd, and Betty (John) Parshall, and sister-in-law Julie Ostrander.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 21, 2025 at the Kendall Funeral Service, 209 Mary Street, Boscobel with Rev. Lance Wetter officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:00 am until the time of the service. She will be laid to rest in the Blue River Cemetery.
