Nelson Peer Obituary

Nelson Peer, age 94 of Boscobel, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Gundersen Health System (Emplify) in Boscobel, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 6, 1930 in Boscobel, son of Cecil and Hazel (Hagarty) Peer. He married Mildred Miller on January 22, 1955 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. In January of 2025, they celebrated 70 years of marriage. Nelson proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War.

He was a lifelong resident of Marion township. Throughout his lifetime, he was a very hard worker and provided well for his family.  He was a farmer, owned a salvage yard, owned a rock quarry and construction business in which he provided services for farmers by hauling lime and shale, clearing land with his bulldozer and backhoe work. He was very mechanically inclined and was always willing to drop everything and lend a helping hand to others. He had a very strong faith in God and the power of prayer. He will always be remembered for his honesty and integrity and always believed in doing the right thing. He witnessed many changes in his 94 years but was still able to navigate on an I-pad. Later in years he took pride in hauling his own scrap metal at the age of 90, growing his own garden and raising garlic. He always felt blessed for what God had given him and cherished family get-togethers and visits.

Nelson is survived by his loving wife Mildred Peer of Boscobel, children Steve (Deborah) Peer of Boscobel, Kathy (John) Wandsnider of East Dubuque, Terry Peer of Boscobel, Judi (Gary) Boughton of Boscobel, Aaron (Crystal) Peer of Boscobel; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Marguerite Wellner, Agnes Peer and an infant sister, as well as his brother, Virgil Peer.
