Nola O. Jones, age 101 of Wauzeka, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Boscobel Care and Rehab, where she resided for the past 10 years. She was born on October 5, 1923, to Orla and Tillie (Oakes) Ward in Crawford County and spent most of her life there. She married James Luther Jones on July 3, 1944. To them were born four sons and one daughter. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1992. Nola worked at Parker Pen in Janesville as well as a homemaker’s helper before marriage. After her marriage, she worked hard at raising her children to become moral and self-sufficient adults. She played the main role of keeping her children clothed and warm, hand making their clothes and quilts. No one ever kept count, but the number of quilts she made over her lifetime for many people, whether baby quilts, graduation quilts, or wedding quilts, is immeasurable. She was a loving, caring, and gentle soul. In later life, she worked at Wauzeka High School and Boscobel Hospital in housekeeping.
She leaves behind two sons, Dale (Lori) Jones of Arena and Rod (Tina) Jones of Fennimore, one daughter Joyce (Merlin) Copus of Viroqua, two daughters-in-law Margaret Jones of Platteville, and Deb Jones of Prairie du Chein. She is further survived by eleven grandchildren, Patience (Dave) Ray, Peggy Haupt, Jennifer Pence, Christopher (Nancy) Copus, Adrianne (Daniel) Clark, Richard (Melissa) Jones, Amanda (Matt) Downing, Andrew (Rachel) Jones, Brandi Jones, Brenda (Kevin) Warrington, and Josh (Kelly) Jones; seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband James Jones, Nola was preceded in death by her parents, two sons Jim “Butch” Jones and Raymond Jones, siblings Thelma Craig and Lester Ward, infant grandson, Robert Allen “Bobby” Jones and infant granddaughter Carolyn Jones, great-grandson Anthony Lorenz, daughter-in-law Donna Jones, and a grandson-in-law Christopher Pence.
