Richard "Dick" Camp Obituary

Richard F. ("Dick") Camp, age 90 of Boscobel, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Soldiers Grove Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin, surrounded by his family. Dick was born on December 30, 1933, in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Edson Richard and Sophia (Maslowski) Camp. He married Constance Kohlman on October 10, 1956, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwich, Connecticut. Dick had an amazingly full 90 years of life on earth. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry, in 1955, where he met his wife, Connie. During their 68 years of marriage, they would live in 7 different homes in Texas, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. The adventure started in the Airforce as Dick earned his wings as a helicopter pilot. They lived on 3 different Airforce bases in Lubbock and Converse, TX, and Smyrna, TN. In 1959, after leaving the service, Dick took a job in Tomahawk, WI as a forester due to his pilot skills. This was followed by a job as Rock County forester in Milton Junction, WI, and a promotion to Grant County forester. Dick and Connie lived in Lancaster, WI for 6 years, before moving to Boscobel, WI in 1972 when he became the Plant Manager at the Wilson State Nursery. During his 21 years at the nursery, he led the plant and shipped over 126 million trees. Dick and Connie raised 13 children including 9 daughters and 4 sons. They were leading members of the Catholic Church in Boscobel and always busy running the 360-acre family tree farm, Gerard Acres. Dick loved forestry and spending time on their tree farm near Mt Hope, WI. He was an avid hunter and fisherman including leading hunter’s safety classes for over 30 years. He enjoyed teaching his kids everything about the outdoors from how to hunt/fish, to shearing and baling trees for sale, to putting up fencing for the pasture that they leased to a neighbor. Dick loved his family dearly and worked tirelessly to give them everything he could. Dick is survived by his wife, Constance “Connie” Camp of Boscobel. A brother, William (Virginia) Camp of New Bern, N.C. His children, Lucinda (Montgomery) Morse of Eau Claire, WI, Richard “Rick” Camp of Peluma, CA, James (Peggy) Camp of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Wendy (Dion) Sanger of Florence, AL, Kathleen (Charles) Sprafka of South St. Paul, MN, Walter (Paige) Camp of Fall River, WI, Jeni (Carey) Rehder of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Marcia (Douglas) Miller of Gilbertsville, KY, Kelly Camp (Warren) of Madison, WI, Matthew (Jennifer) Camp of Sun Prairie, WI, Gretchen Camp (Brett) of Minneapolis, MN, and April (Nicholas) Shera of West Bend, WI. 22 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, and 1 great-grandson.
