Robert Blanchard Sr. Obituary

Robert A. Blanchard, Sr., age 84 of Boscobel, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024 after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 19, 1940 in Bangor, Maine. Bob moved to Wisconsin the late 1970’s and married Barbara Miller on December 20, 1981.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. and was a member of the American Legion Post 134. He was a Jack of all trades and worked as a cook, a mail carrier, and a truck driver. Bob enjoyed country music and playing guitar, and he had a band called The Country Heart Beats. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 ½ years, Barbara Blanchard; children, Robert Jr., Theresa, Gary (Diane), Jerry (Richelle), Ronald, Angi (Hayden) Strong, Tammy (Raymond “Tinker”) Sumabat, all of Maine; sons Dennis Miller of Boscobel, Brian (Jennifer) Miller of Prairie du Chien; along with 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, sister Cathy Bennett of FL, brother George Southworth of Portland, ME, several nieces and nephews, and very special cousins Jackie (Gary) Swett and Pattie (Al) Howland.

Bob was preceded in death by his grandson Matthew Blanchard, mother Pearl Southworth, grandparents, Roy and Edna Blanchard, brother John Southworth, sisters Nora and Linda, parents-in-law Rose and Lavern Miller, and special grandpa Dale Roth.

A graveside service for Bob will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 31, 2024 at the Boscobel Cemetery with military honors. Immediately following the service, Bob’s family will be going to the American Legion Hall in Boscobel for food and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, donations to American Legion Post 134, 104 ½ E. Oak Street, Boscobel, WI 53805 are appreciated. The Kendall Funeral Service of Boscobel is assisting with arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.kendallfuneralservice.com.
