Boscobel- William F. "Bill" Ward, age 78, of rural Boscobel, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023,
surrounded by his family at his home, after a battle with an ongoing illness.
Bill was born December 11,1944 in Marietta Township, Crawford County, Wisconsin; The son of Joseph
and Isabel (Markin) Ward. He grew up in rural Boscobel and attended school in Boscobel. As a young
man, he went on to meet the love of his life, Carol Groom, at an outdoor movie. The couple married on
July 18, 1964, and went on to have 4 children.
Bill was a country boy, through and through; very much a “man of the woods”. He loved fishing, deer
hunting, logging, dozing, farming, and caring for his cattle. Bill spent nearly 50 years of his life on the
family farm; his dream home. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed his time on the farm most when he
was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. In his retirement years, he enjoyed his coffee time in
Boscobel, which was typically spent at the Unique Café amongst friends. Bill can be remembered as a
kind man with a good sense of humor. If asked, his grandchildren would all agree that Grandpa could
always make them laugh. He will be missed greatly by friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Carol Ward of Boscobel; His children, Randy Ward (fiancée Janet Miller) of
Muscoda; Clayton (Janice) Ward of Boscobel; Lisa (Tyson) Mindham of Blue Mounds; and Shelley
(Marcus) McCullick of Steuben; 13 Grandchildren; 7 Great-Grandchildren; His siblings, Nita Monroe of
North Pole, Alaska; Don (Sophie) Ward of North Pole, Alaska; Pam Groom of North Pole, Alaska; Dean
(Wanetta) Ward of Excelsior; A special nephew; Mark (Amy) Ward of Arena. He was preceded in death
by his parents; sister Sherry Burns, and brother Gary Ward.
